Neustria
Neustria fue un reino de la época merovingia. A la muerte de Clodoveo I el Grande, rey de los francos (561), este dividió el Regnum Francorum entre sus hijos. A Clotario I el Viejo le dio Neustria, a Teodorico I le dio Austrasia, a Segismundo le dio Borgoña y a Childeberto I le dio París. El territorio de Neustria cubría la región noroeste de la actual Francia, y su capital era Soissons.

Su alto grado de romanización y la ambición de sus monarcas lo enfrentaron frecuentemente a Austrasia, reino germánico de Metz. En el s. IX se extendía desde Orleans a París, pero más tarde quedó limitado a la Normandía.

VI. El reino del Este se denominaba Austrasia. A grandes rasgos, Neustria abarcaba a la zona de Francia actual que se encuentra entre el oeste del río Mosa y el norte del río Loira. Más tarde, el nombre se refería a un área bastante más pequeña. En los s. XI y XII se utilizaba a veces como sinónimo de Normandía.
